Seasonal Floorcare Strategy
The first day of winter is officially Dec. 21, but depending on what area of the country you’re in, the slush, snow and ice may be greeting you sooner. And you know what this means for your building entrances and floors: leaves, debris and ice melt. Make this the year you get ahead of the weather with indoor and outdoor floor mats and mops to help keep up appearances and safety.
One approach to consider to reduce slips and falls at the entrance of your building is the one-two punch of a scraper and dry mat system. A scraper mat outside the entryway helps remove dirt and snow from shoes. It is engineered to trap soils below the surface. Right inside the doorway, a classic mat allows guests to wipe off additional debris and water. And don’t worry about melting snow leaking onto the floor; the classic mat can hold more than one gallon of water. A secondary interior mat also helps guests get their bearings as they enter the building. Both mats are made of heavy nitrile rubber, which reduces mat movement and helps lower the potential for trips.
Between the salt, sand and heavy foot traffic, winter can take a toll on floor mats. However, when you rent your mats from a facility services provider, the upkeep is taken care of for you. You don’t have to lug bulky mats around when they need to be cleaned. Your mats are on a wash and return rotation so that they are always fresh and clean. And with an industrial launderer, floor mats are completely washed, versus simply vacuumed, to better remove dirt.
Don’t forget to add floor mops to your winter cleaning mix. For example, microfibre scrubber pads are a good choice for removing wet footprints and pesky slush. And did you know microfibre can hold seven times its weight in fluid? Microfibre mop pads can stand up to several industrial washes, which means they can also be an economical choice. With several options available, there is a mop to handle just about any task.
Maintain a positive first impression as guests enter your business. Durable, effective and consistently clean floor mats provide an inviting entrance. And mops can help wipe up any residual liquid and dirt. Because you don’t have the large upfront fees associated with purchasing floor mats or mops, rental becomes a cost-effective solution to keeping the elements outside.
